Etsy seller fees in 2026
A US Etsy shop pays three fees on almost every sale: $0.20 to list the item, a 6.5% transaction fee when it sells, and 3% + $0.25 for payment processing through Etsy Payments. Two more apply only sometimes: the Offsite Ads fee and a currency conversion fee. The US has no regulatory operating fee; sellers in the UK, Canada and several other countries pay one on top.
| Fee | Rate | Charged on |
|---|---|---|
| Listing fee | $0.20 | Each listing, for four months, sold or not; again after each sale of a multi-quantity listing |
| Transaction fee | 6.5% | Item price (with personalization) plus shipping and gift wrap; not sales tax |
| Payment processing | 3% + $0.25 per order | The whole order, including shipping and the sales tax Etsy collects |
| Offsite Ads | 15%, or 12% after $10,000 in sales a year | Orders from an Etsy ad on another site; at most $100 per order |
| Currency conversion | 2.5% | The sale, if you list in a currency other than your bank account’s |
| Regulatory operating fee | None in the US | Charged to sellers in certain other countries |
| Etsy Ads | Your daily budget | Optional ads inside Etsy; never more than the budget you set per day |
| Etsy Plus | $10 a month | Optional; includes 15 listing credits and $5 of Etsy Ads credit |
| Set-up fee | One time; varies by location | Shown and charged when you open a shop, if it applies |
Worked example: a $28.00 handmade candle
You sell a hand-poured candle that cost you $7.00 in wax, wick and jar for $28.00. The buyer pays $6.00 shipping, postage costs you the same, and they live in a state with 6% sales tax, which Etsy adds at checkout and pays to the state. These are the numbers the calculator above starts with:
| Sold price | $28.00 |
|---|---|
| Shipping charged to buyer | +$6.00 |
| Listing fee ($0.20 per listing or renewal) | −$0.20 |
| Transaction fee (6.5% of $34.00: item price + shipping) | −$2.21 |
| Payment processing (3% of $36.04: item price + shipping + $2.04 sales tax, + $0.25) | −$1.33 |
| Payout from Etsy | $30.26 |
| Your shipping cost | −$6.00 |
| Item cost | −$7.00 |
| Profit | $17.26 |
Etsy’s fees come to $3.74, 11.0% of the $34.00 the buyer paid for the candle and shipping. The processing fee is charged on $36.04, because it includes the $2.04 of sales tax that never reaches you. After postage and materials your profit is $17.26, a 50.8% margin.
What an Offsite Ads order costs
If the same buyer found the candle through an Etsy ad on Google, Instagram or Pinterest, Etsy adds its Offsite Ads fee on the price and shipping (not the sales tax):
| Order | Etsy fees | Payout | Profit |
|---|---|---|---|
| No Offsite Ad | $3.74 | $30.26 | $17.26 |
| Offsite Ad, 15% rate | $8.84 | $25.16 | $12.16 |
| Offsite Ad, 12% rate | $7.82 | $26.18 | $13.18 |
The fee never exceeds $100 per order, which the 15% rate reaches on an order of $666.67. Shops under $10,000 a year can opt out; once a shop reaches it, Offsite Ads are required at 12% for the life of the shop.
Etsy fees on digital products
Digital downloads pay the same listing, transaction and processing fees, with no shipping. Because two of those fees are flat, cheap downloads lose a much larger share. With no sales tax:
| Price | Etsy fees | Share of price | You keep |
|---|---|---|---|
| $2.00 | $0.64 | 32.0% | $1.36 |
| $5.00 | $0.93 | 18.6% | $4.07 |
| $10.00 | $1.40 | 14.0% | $8.60 |
| $20.00 | $2.35 | 11.8% | $17.65 |
| $50.00 | $5.20 | 10.4% | $44.80 |
Etsy collects sales tax on digital items for buyers in states that tax them, and the processing fee applies to that tax too: set the tax rate in the calculator to match.
Price your handmade item
Start from your costs, not from Etsy’s fees: materials, packaging, postage and your time. Then let the calculator add the fees. For $20 profit on the candle, list it at $31.04 with $6.00 shipping charged; Etsy’s fees are then $4.04. Offer free shipping instead and the price has to rise to $37.04, because the postage now comes out of the price. If a sale might come from an Offsite Ad, test the price with the ad fee switched on as well. To compare the same item on other marketplaces, use the list price calculator.
What Etsy’s fees are charged on
- The item price you display. Personalization charges are added to it, and gift wrap is charged the same 6.5%.
- Shipping you charge. Both the transaction fee and the processing fee apply to it; Etsy pays the shipping out to you with the sale.
- Sales tax. Etsy calculates, collects and remits it in US states where it is required, at no charge. Only the processing fee applies to it.
- Refunds. When you refund a buyer, Etsy recalculates the processing fee and the other sale fees on the adjusted price and credits you the difference, except when Etsy itself covers a full refund under its Purchase Protection. Listing fees are never refunded.
- Shipping labels. An Etsy label is deducted from your balance when you buy it: enter it as your shipping cost.
How to pay less in Etsy fees
- List in US dollars. Listing in another currency adds 2.5% to every sale.
- Turn off auto-renew on listings that don’t sell. Each renewal is another $0.20, every four months.
- Price small digital items with the flat fees in mind. A $2.00 download loses 32.0% of its price to fees; bundling files into one listing spreads the flat $0.20 and $0.25.
- Decide on Offsite Ads while you can. Under $10,000 a year you can opt out; an ad-driven order can cost 15% more.

Frequently asked questions
How much does Etsy take from a sale?
On the $28.00 candle above with $6.00 shipping and 6% sales tax, Etsy’s fees come to $3.74: the $0.20 listing fee, the 6.5% transaction fee and 3% + $0.25 payment processing. That is 11.0% of the $34.00 the buyer paid before tax, and $30.26 reaches your payment account.
What are Etsy’s fees in 2026?
For a US shop: $0.20 per listing (it lasts four months), a 6.5% transaction fee on the item price plus shipping and gift wrap, and 3% + $0.25 per order for payment processing. Orders from Offsite Ads add 15% or 12%, capped at $100; listing in another currency adds 2.5%.
Does Etsy charge fees on shipping?
Yes. The 6.5% transaction fee and the 3% processing fee both apply to the shipping you charge, so $6.00 of shipping costs you $0.58 in fees on this example. Free shipping avoids those fees, but you pay the postage yourself.
What are Etsy’s fees for digital products?
The same fees, with no shipping: a $5.00 download costs $0.93 in fees with no sales tax, 18.6% of the price, because the $0.20 listing fee and $0.25 processing fee are flat. Etsy collects sales tax on digital items in states that tax them, and its processing fee applies to that tax.
Does Etsy charge fees on sales tax?
The transaction fee is not charged on sales tax for US sellers, but the 3% payment processing fee is charged on the whole order including the tax Etsy collects. At 6% on a $34.00 order, that is $2.04 of tax you never receive, adding about $0.06 to your fee.
What is the Etsy Offsite Ads fee, and can I opt out?
When a buyer clicks an Etsy ad on another site and orders from your shop within 30 days, Etsy charges 15% of the order total, or 12% once your shop has made $10,000 in any 365 days, never more than $100 per order. You can opt out only while your shop has never reached $10,000.
What price should I list at on Etsy?
Use “What should I list it at?” in the calculator. For $20 profit on the candle ($7.00 of materials, $6.00 postage), list at $31.04 if the buyer pays $6.00 shipping, or $37.04 if you offer free shipping.
