eBay Fee Calculator
Free eBay fee calculator for US sellers: final value fee by category, per-order fee, sales tax, Store rates and promoted listings, with your profit per sale.
How to use the eBay Fee Calculator
- Enter the sold price and the shipping the buyer paid, then what the item cost you and what your label cost.
- Pick the eBay category you list in and your Store level. No Store and a Starter Store pay the same rates.
- Set the buyer’s sales tax rate: eBay charges its fee on the tax too, even though you never receive it. Add Promoted Listings, Top Rated Plus or an international buyer if they apply.
- Read your fees, payout and profit, or enter the profit you want to get the lowest price to list at.
eBay seller fees in 2026
When an item sells, eBay charges a US seller a final value fee, a percentage of the whole sale that depends on the category and on whether you have a Store, plus a per-order fee. There are no separate third-party payment processing fees on top. Vehicles on eBay Motors and sales on eBay Live have their own fee schedules, which this calculator doesn’t cover; for eBay.co.uk, use the eBay Fee Calculator UK.
| Fee | Rate | Charged on |
|---|---|---|
| Final value fee | 13.6% in most categories, 2.35% above $7,500 (by category below) | The sale total: item price, handling, shipping and sales tax |
| Per-order fee | $0.40, or $0.30 on orders of $10 or less | Each order; not charged on athletic shoes of $150 or more |
| Insertion fee | 250 free listings a month, then $0.35 each | Each listing, whether it sells or not; more free listings with a Store |
| International fee | 1.65% | The sale total, when the buyer or delivery address is outside the US, unless you use eBay International Shipping |
| Promoted Listings (general) | Your ad rate, 2% to 100% | The sale total, only if the item sells within 30 days of a click on your ad |
| Top Rated Plus | 10% off the final value fee | The percentage part only, not the per-order fee |
| Below Standard | +6% (+7% after four months in a row) | The sale total, on sales the month after the evaluation |
Final value fees by category
“Up to” rates are charged on each portion of the sale total; “whole sale” rates apply one percentage to the entire total depending on its size. Rates are calculated per item. Categories without their own row, such as Home & Garden, Toys & Hobbies, Health & Beauty and most Collectibles, pay the most-categories rate, as do accessories for phones, cameras and computers, and video games themselves.

Worked example: a $50 sale
You sell a $50 item in a most-categories listing with no Store. The buyer pays $8 shipping plus 6% sales tax ($3.48), so eBay charges its fee on $61.48. The item cost you $15 and the label $8. These are the numbers the calculator above starts with:
| Sold price | $50.00 |
|---|---|
| Shipping charged to buyer | +$8.00 |
| Final value fee (13.6% of $61.48 incl. $3.48 sales tax) | −$8.36 |
| Per-order fee (order total over $10) | −$0.40 |
| Payout from eBay | $49.24 |
| Your shipping cost | −$8.00 |
| Item cost | −$15.00 |
| Profit | $26.24 |
eBay keeps $8.76 in all, or 15.1% of the $58 you charged, and pays you $49.24. After the item and the label your profit is $26.24: a 45.2% margin. With a Basic Store the same sale costs $8.21 in fees, and as a Top Rated Plus listing $7.93.
What eBay’s fees are charged on
- The item price, handling and shipping. The final value fee is a percentage of the total amount of the sale, which includes any handling charge and the shipping the buyer pays.
- Sales tax. The buyer’s sales tax is in the fee base too, but it is never paid out to you. In eBay’s own example, a $400 item with free shipping and 6% tax is charged on $424, and the seller receives $341.59 after $58.41 of fees (including a $0.35 insertion fee). At 6% tax the headline 13.6% costs about 14.4% of the price plus shipping you charge, which is why the calculator asks for the buyer’s tax rate.
- Shipping exceptions. If you offer 1-day or international shipping alongside a cheaper domestic option, the fee is based on the cheapest domestic option you offer. With eBay International Shipping it is based on your cost to ship to the US hub, or nothing if your listing offered free domestic shipping. Sneakers sold through Authenticity Guarantee with a free shipping label pay no final value fee on shipping.
- The per-order fee. The $10 threshold uses the order total, shipping and tax included: when the fee rose in 2024, eBay’s example was a trading card sale totalling $25 including shipping and tax, which pays $3.71 instead of $3.61. An order is everything one buyer purchases at checkout with the same shipping method, so a combined order pays the fee once.
eBay fees for sports cards and trading cards
Sports Trading Cards, Non-Sport Trading Cards, Collectible Card Games and Comic Books & Memorabilia have their own rate: 13.25% of the sale total up to $7,500 and 2.35% on the portion above, or 12.35% up to $2,500 with a Basic Store or higher. That is below the 13.6% most categories pay, and the 13.25% rate did not change when most rates rose in February 2025. With free shipping and 6% sales tax, a single card costs:
| Card sells for | Fees, no Store | You receive | Fees, Basic Store |
|---|---|---|---|
| $5 | $1.00 | $4.00 | $0.95 |
| $25 | $3.91 | $21.09 | $3.67 |
| $100 | $14.45 | $85.55 | $13.49 |
| $500 | $70.63 | $429.37 | $65.86 |
| $10,000 | $1,067.00 | $8,933.00 | $499.50 |
On cheap cards the flat per-order fee does most of the damage: of the $1.00 charged on a $5 card, $0.30 is the per-order fee, 6.0% of the price by itself, so bundling cards into one order helps. At the top end, eBay’s own example is a $9,500 card with 6% tax: 13.25% of the first $7,500 plus 2.35% of the remaining $2,570, plus $0.40, is $1,054.55.
eBay Store subscriptions: when a Basic Store pays for itself
A Starter Store pays the same final value fees as no Store. Basic, Premium, Anchor and Enterprise Stores share the lower rates in the table above, and Stores come with more free listings or cheaper insertion fees. eBay charges the subscription monthly:
| Store | Yearly renewal | Monthly renewal | Final value fees |
|---|---|---|---|
| Starter | $4.95 | $7.95 | Same as no Store |
| Basic | $21.95 | $27.95 | Store rates |
| Premium | $59.95 | $74.95 | Store rates |
| Anchor | $299.95 | $349.95 | Store rates |
| Enterprise | $2,999.95 | Not available | Store rates |
The saving is the difference in rate times your monthly sales. At $21.95 a month on a yearly plan, a Basic Store’s lower rate alone covers the subscription at these monthly sales (items under $2,500, shipping and tax included):
- Most categories: 13.6% becomes 12.7%, break-even at about $2,439 a month
- Trading cards: 13.25% becomes 12.35%, break-even at about $2,439 a month
- Phones, cameras and electronics: 13.6% becomes 9.35%, break-even at about $517 a month
- Laptops, desktops, tablets and consoles: 13.6% becomes 7.35%, break-even at about $352 a month
Above $2,500 per item a Store saves more in most categories, because Store rates drop to 2.35% at $2,500 instead of $7,500. Free listings add to the saving: a Basic Store includes 1,000 fixed price listings a month in all categories, against 250 without a Store.
How to pay less in eBay fees
- Qualify for Top Rated Plus. Top Rated sellers get 10% off the final value fee on listings with same or 1-business-day handling and 30-day or longer free returns: $7.93 instead of $8.76 on the worked example.
- Stay Above Standard. A Below Standard evaluation adds 6% of the sale total to every sale the next month (7% after four months in a row), far more than Top Rated Plus saves. A Very High rate of “item not as described” returns in a category adds 5% there (6% after four months).
- Combine orders. One checkout with one shipping method pays one per-order fee, however many items it holds.
- Know the $150 sneaker line. Athletic shoes with a sale total of $150 or more pay 8% and no per-order fee, instead of 13.6% plus the per-order fee.
- Open a Store when the numbers work. Use the break-even figures above for your category.
- Ship abroad with eBay International Shipping. It avoids the 1.65% international fee.
- Treat ad rates as fees. A Promoted Listings ad rate applies to the whole sale total, tax included, whenever the item sells within 30 days of a click.
- Stay within your free listings. After 250 a month (without a Store) each listing costs $0.35. Upgrades cost extra: Bold is $2 on an auction and $4 on a fixed price listing, a subtitle $1.50 to $6. A dispute you are found responsible for, such as a chargeback, costs $20.
eBay fee changes
- (upcoming): the seller currency conversion charge, applied when eBay converts your funds for an item listed or sold on another eBay site, rises from 3% to 3.25% for US-registered sellers.
- : final value fees rose by up to 0.35 percentage points. Most categories went from 13.25% to 13.6%; books, movies & TV and music from 14.95% to 15.3%; guitars & basses from 6.35% to 6.7%; athletic shoes under $150 and bullion up to $7,500 from 13.25% to 13.6%. With a Basic Store or higher, most categories went from 12.35% to 12.7%, most electronics from 9% to 9.35% and the main computer categories from 7% to 7.35%. Without a Store, trading cards, comics and coins kept their 13.25% rate.
- : the per-order fee on orders over $10 rose from $0.30 to $0.40 in all categories. Orders of $10 or less stayed at $0.30.
Frequently asked questions
How much are eBay fees in 2026?
Most US sellers pay a final value fee of 13.6% of the sale total (item price, shipping and sales tax) plus $0.40 per order, or $0.30 when the order total is $10 or less. Some categories differ: trading cards, comics and coins 13.25%, books, movies and music 15.3%, guitars and basses 6.7%, and athletic shoes selling for $150 or more 8% with no per-order fee. A Basic Store or higher lowers most rates, to 12.7% in most categories.
What are eBay’s fees for sports cards and trading cards?
Sports trading cards, non-sport trading cards, collectible card games and comic books pay 13.25% of the sale total up to $7,500 and 2.35% on any amount above, plus the per-order fee. With a Basic Store or higher the rate is 12.35% up to $2,500 and 2.35% above. In eBay’s own example, a trading card sale totalling $25 including shipping and tax pays $3.71 in fees; the table on this page adds 6% sales tax on top of the card price, so a $25 card there pays $3.91.
Does eBay charge fees on shipping and sales tax?
Yes. The final value fee is a percentage of the total amount of the sale, which includes the item price, handling, the shipping the buyer pays and sales tax. The tax is not paid out to you, so at 6% sales tax the 13.6% rate costs about 14.4% of the price and shipping you actually receive.
How do I calculate eBay fees by hand?
Add up what the buyer pays: price, shipping and sales tax. Multiply by your category rate, then add the per-order fee. For a $50 item with $8 shipping and 6% tax, the total is $61.48; 13.6% of that plus $0.40 is $8.76.
Is an eBay Store worth it for the lower fees?
A Basic Store costs $21.95 a month on a yearly plan and cuts the rate in most categories from 13.6% to 12.7% on items up to $2,500. That saving covers the subscription once your sales pass about $2,439 a month, and much sooner in categories with a bigger Store discount, such as electronics ($517) and computers ($352).
Are eBay fees different in the UK?
Yes. eBay.co.uk has its own fee schedule: UK-based private sellers pay no final value fee on UK sales, while business sellers pay a category rate, a per-order fee, a 0.35% regulatory operating fee and VAT. Our eBay Fee Calculator UK covers both.
How current are these eBay fees?
They were checked against eBay’s own fee pages on the date shown in the sources box below, and the change log lists eBay’s fee changes since March 2024. The calculator, the tables and this page all read the same fee model, so they always agree.
