Business sellers' fees are quoted before VAT. Private sellers' fees already include it, except Promoted Listings. Turn off to see fees before VAT, for example if you reclaim it.

Leave at 0 unless eBay adds tax on top of your price at checkout. If it does, enter the rate: eBay’s fees are charged on that tax too.

Private sellers get 300 free listings a month, then 35p each. Business sellers without a Shop pay 30p per listing before VAT. Upgrades such as a subtitle cost extra.

eBay UK seller fees in 2026

On eBay.co.uk what you pay depends first on your account type. Since 1 October 2024, UK-based private sellers pay no final value fee and no regulatory operating fee when an item sells, in every category except Cars, Motorcycles & Vehicles. Business sellers pay a final value fee set by category, a per-order fee and a 0.35% regulatory operating fee on every sale, with VAT added. Vehicles and eBay Live sales have separate fee schedules that this calculator doesn’t cover.

Final value fees by category (business sellers)

Rates are a percentage of the total amount of the sale: the item price, postage and any applicable taxes. Where a category has bands, each rate applies to its part of the total, calculated per item. Add the per-order fee and the 0.35% regulatory operating fee to every sale, then VAT. If you list an item in two categories, the higher of the two final value fees applies.

Worked example: a £40 jacket

As a business seller you sell a £40 jacket in Clothes, Shoes & Accessories and the buyer pays £4 postage, so the sale total is £44. The jacket cost you £12 and posting it costs £3.20. These are the numbers the calculator above starts with:

Worked example, from sold price to profit
Sold price£40.00
Shipping charged to buyer+£4.00
Final value fee (11.9% of £44.00)−£5.24
Per-order fee (order total over £10)−£0.40
Regulatory operating fee (0.35% of £44.00)−£0.15
VAT on eBay fees (20% of £5.79)−£1.16
Payout from eBay£37.05
Your shipping cost−£3.20
Item cost−£12.00
Profit£21.85

eBay keeps £6.95 (£5.79 plus £1.16 VAT), or 15.8% of the sale, and pays you £37.05. Your profit is £21.85: a 49.7% margin. As a UK-based private seller the same sale costs £0.00 in fees and leaves £28.80; if a private seller’s buyer is in Germany or France, the international fee is £1.32.

Private or business seller: which fees apply to you

Your account type is set on your eBay account, and eBay charges business fees to sellers registered as a business on eBay. If you change from a private to a business account, listings that sell after the change pay the business fees. The difference is large: on the worked example a private seller keeps £6.95 more. Private sellers still pay for listings beyond their 300 free ones each month, for optional upgrades such as a £2 subtitle, and the international fee on overseas orders. Pick your account type in the calculator and every fee line changes to match.

What eBay UK’s fees are charged on

  • The total, postage included. The final value fee, the regulatory operating fee, the international fee and Promoted Listings fees are all percentages of the total amount of the sale: the item price, postage and any applicable taxes.
  • Tax added at checkout. If eBay adds tax on top of your price at checkout, the fees are charged on it too; the calculator’s checkout tax setting covers this.
  • VAT on the fees. The business fee table is quoted excluding VAT, and eBay adds VAT as a separate charge on the seller invoice. eBay’s example: on a £20 sale the regulatory operating fee is £0.07, or £0.08 with VAT. Private sellers’ fees already include VAT at 20%.
  • The one postage exception. Trainers sold through Authenticity Guarantee with a free postage label pay no final value fee on postage.

eBay Shops: when a Shop pays for itself

For business sellers eBay’s final value fee table is the same with or without a Shop; a Shop’s saving is in listing fees and tools. Without a Shop every fixed price listing costs 30p. Shop prices per month, excluding VAT:

eBay UK Shop packages for business sellers
ShopPer monthFree fixed price listingsFree 7-day auctionsEach extra listing (fixed / auction)
No Shop–NoneNone30p / 30p
Basic£2725010010p / 15p
Featured£771,5006005p / 15p
Anchor£437Unlimited1,000Free / 15p

At 30p a listing, a Basic Shop’s £27 is covered once you create about 90 fixed price listings a month, before counting its other tools. Private sellers can subscribe to a Shop too, for £19.99 a month, which raises their free listings from 300 to 400.

How to pay less in eBay UK fees

  • Qualify for Premium Service. eBay Top-rated Sellers get 10% off the variable final value fee on Premium Service listings (not the per-order fee): £6.31 instead of £6.95 on the worked example.
  • Stay Above Standard. A Below Standard evaluation adds 6 percentage points to the final value fee the next month (7 after four months in a row), so a 9.9% rate becomes 15.9%; on the worked example fees rise to £10.12. A Very High rate of “item not as described” requests adds 4 points in that category (5 after four months), unless you had fewer than 10 such requests or a rate under 1% there.
  • Combine orders. One checkout with one delivery method pays one per-order fee. In Antiques, Art, Coins, Collectables, Dolls & Bears, Pottery & Glass, Sports Memorabilia, Stamps and Home, Furniture & DIY, orders of £10 or less pay only £0.10.
  • List in the category that fits. Rates run from 9.9% to 12.9% in most categories, and listing in two categories charges the higher rate.
  • Count your listings. Creating more than 90 fixed price listings a month? A Basic Shop costs less than paying 30p for each.
  • Treat ad rates as fees. With a general Promoted Listings campaign you choose an ad rate from 2% to 100% of the total including postage, charged when the item sells within 30 days of a click on your ad.
  • Avoid disputes. If you are found responsible for a chargeback or other dispute, the fee is £14 for business sellers (£16.80 for private sellers, VAT included).

eBay UK fee changes

  • (upcoming): the seller currency conversion charge, applied when eBay converts your funds for an item listed or sold on another eBay site, rises from 2.5% to 2.75% for UK-registered sellers.
  • : for business sellers the per-order fee on orders over £10 rose from £0.30 to £0.40 (orders up to £10 stayed at £0.30). Business, Office & Industrial went from 11.9% to 12.5%; Vehicle Parts & Accessories from 8.9% to 9.5% up to £750 and 3% above; tyres from 7.9% up to £250 to 6.9% up to £750; and the 6.9% band for GPS & sat nav devices and power tools was extended from £400 to £750.
  • : selling became free for UK-based private sellers, with no final value fee or regulatory operating fee when an item sells, in every category except Cars, Motorcycles & Vehicles.
  • : a regulatory operating fee of 0.35% of the sale total was introduced on eBay.co.uk sales. It is subject to VAT and has no cap.
  • : a reduced 10p per-order fee on orders up to £10 started applying automatically for UK business sellers in eight collectables categories (listings created from 1 February 2022) and Home, Furniture & DIY (listings created from 19 April 2022).

Frequently asked questions

Do private sellers pay eBay fees in the UK?

Not on UK sales. Since 1 October 2024, UK-based private sellers pay no final value fee and no regulatory operating fee when an item sells, in every category except vehicles. You still pay for optional upgrades, for listings beyond 300 a month (35p each) and a 3% international fee when the item goes to an overseas address.

What fees do business sellers pay on eBay UK in 2026?

A final value fee set by category (from 9.9% to 12.9% in most categories, with lower rates on the expensive part of the sale in categories such as phones, laptops and furniture), plus £0.40 per order (£0.30 on orders of £10 or less) and a 0.35% regulatory operating fee, all charged on the total including postage. Overseas orders add an international fee, and VAT is added to eBay’s fees. A £40 clothing sale with £4 postage costs £6.95 in fees including VAT.

How is the eBay final value fee worked out?

Take the total the buyer pays: item price plus postage plus any tax eBay adds at checkout. Multiply by your category’s rate, applying each rate band to its part of the total, then add the per-order fee. For a £44 clothing order that is 11.9% of £44 plus £0.40. The 0.35% regulatory operating fee is charged on the same total.

Is VAT charged on eBay fees?

Business sellers’ fees are quoted excluding VAT, and eBay adds VAT to the seller invoice: £1.16 on the £5.79 of fees in this page’s example. eBay’s own regulatory operating fee example shows 0.35% becoming 0.42% with VAT. Private sellers’ fees already include VAT at 20%, although VAT may be added to Promoted Listings fees.

How do I work out my profit on eBay UK?

Start with what the buyer paid for the item and postage, take off eBay’s fees to get your payout, then take off what the item cost you and what you paid for postage. In the worked example on this page a business seller keeps £21.85 and a private seller £28.80 from the same sale. The calculator does this for your numbers.

Does eBay UK charge fees on postage?

Yes, for business sellers: the final value fee, the regulatory operating fee, the international fee and Promoted Listings fees are all charged on the total including postage. The exception is trainers sold through Authenticity Guarantee with a free postage label, where no final value fee is charged on postage.

How current are these eBay UK fees?

They were checked against eBay’s own fee pages on the date shown in the sources box below, including the business fee changes of 12 February 2026. The calculator, the tables and this page all read the same fee model, so they always agree.
